General diet questions

What does Waistaway do differently from other slimming service providers?

Firstly, many diets and Slimming organisations offer only one diet option. Lifestyle, medical status and personal requirements are therefore not always catered for. Waistaway offers a range of dieting plans so our pharmacist can match you to the right diet at that right time.

Commercial diet groups are often run with team leaders who do not always have much or any formal medical experience or training. Waistaway is owned and run by our pharmacist, Gareth Evans who qualified back in 1998 and so has many years of experience in weight management.

We have the expertise to help you in the best way possible.

How sustainable and balanced is the diet?

Our Waistaway FLEX Plan is very sustainable way to lose weight. It is designed to work within your lifestyle in a way that you will be comfortable and happy with.

The Waistaway SURE Plan is a supervised rapid weight loss program. Although it is stricter, through regular contact with our pharmacist, you will be more than able to stay on course and see fantastic results.

All our products are nutritionally optimised and produced to EU standards. The Sure plan uses nutritionally complete formula foods using the Lipotrim diet. As part of our service you will receive all the essential nutrients necessary to keep yourself healthy.

How much do the Waistaway diet plans cost? Are there any extra costs?

Prices vary according to the service or diet you use, so please contact us to discuss which plan would work best for you.

As a guide, all of our formulas are generally around £2 per nutritionally complete meal.

The strict nature of the Sure Plan and Lipotrim means there is a set cost of £45 per week for females and £60 per week for males. The Flex plan is just that, flexible, so you will need to speak to us first.

There is no joining fee and absolutely no hidden costs. The price we give you is the price you pay.

Is there a joining fee or payment for unattended weeks?

There is no joining fee or penalties for missed appointments or time away from the diet. We do require our clients to be serious about the program, especially with the SURE plan. If we do not feel you are taking it seriously we may ask you to withdraw.

Do I need to exercise on the diet plans?

Exercise is a very important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and controlling weight after successful weight loss.

However, for significant weight loss, most people are simply unable to dedicate the necessary time and effort to exercise the excess weight away. The maths just doesn’t do what many ill-informed people say. You would have to run about 5 miles a day 7 days a week to lose just 1lb of body fat. For a sustainable and realistic weight loss to happen, dietary change that incorporates a significant calorie gap is the most important factor. With this in mind our Sure plan, using Lipotrim, is often the diet plan of choice for those needing to lose more than a stone of weight (6.35kg).

Whilst we will advise each person on their individual circumstances we caution against exercising above the level which you are used to, especially when following the Sure plan using Lipotrim.

How much water do I have to drink?

The European Food Safety Authority recommends that women should drink about 1.6 litres of fluid and men should drink about 2.0 litres of fluid per day. That’s about eight glasses of 200ml each for a woman, and 10 glasses of 200ml each for a man.

However, the amount a person needs to drink to avoid getting dehydrated will vary depending on a range of factors, including their size, the temperature and how active they are. For example, if you’re exercising hard in hot weather you’ll need to drink more.

On the Waistaway SURE Plan, you will need to drink at least 2 litres daily and no more than 4 litres daily. We can give you more advice regarding beverages during your initial consultation.

What kind of diet support will I have?

We help each of our clients individually. This means the help and advice we give will be tailored for you. You will have a direct number to contact us if you encounter any issues or require advice. When you reach your target weight, we will continue to work with you for as long as you require to avoid unnecessary weight gain.

How do I keep the weight off afterwards?

We will work alongside you for as long as you need to develop healthy eating habits to prevent you from putting the weight back on. Remember weight maintenance is not easy. If it was, you would not have the excess weight to lose in the first place. Please use our support once you have lost the weight, you”’ appreciate it in the long-run.

Are there medications or health conditions that may prevent me from dieting with Waistaway?

Depending on the intensity of the diet there may be certain medications and health conditions which will have to be taken into consideration and this is where our Pharmacy background really counts.

As part of the initial diet consultation we will do a brief medical questionnaire to confirm your medical status, and isolate or rule out any issues. We will advise and direct to the most healthy diet option for you.

Suffer from type 2 diabetes? Even a medical condition as serious as type 2 diabetes can be effectively treated, especially through rapid weight loss. Our team will work with you to optimise the results.

Even for the most unhealthy person there is nothing preventing you from becoming healthier by developing better eating habits.

If you need to lose weight, there will always be a way that we can help.

What is the Lipotrim diet?

Lipotrim started out in 1987 as a GP program that was then extended to the community pharmacy to make it more accessible to overweight and obese people who were serious about wanting to lose weight.

Lipotrim involves the use of nutrient-complete formula total food replacement products, developed in Britain by qualified nutritionists and experts in weight management. It has been proven to be safe and effective in helping many people lose weight.

The unique foods keep you healthy whilst losing weight by providing the full range of nutrients your body needs for a normal, active life.
Our Waistaway SURE Plan is based on the Lipotrim program.

Why can’t I eat anything on the SURE Plan with Lipotrim?

The mild dietary Ketosis caused by being on the SURE Plan reduces the sensation of hunger. To remain in Ketosis you must keep the intake of carbohydrates to an absolute minimum. It is therefore very important not to eat or drink anything (apart from approved drinks), as even a small interruption of Ketosis, can cause you to feel very hungry and make it difficult for you to carry on.

Is it safe to have just liquids and no solid foods on the Lipotrim diet?

The Waistaway SURE Plan uses Lipotrim which are nutritionally complete and you will be under the supervision of trained staff. However, after you have reached your target you will need to revert back to some semblance of conventional foods. The total replacement phase is not indefinite and is actually quite short even for very significant weight losses.

You are able to follow a total food replacement, so long as diet compliance is sustained, for the length of time it takers to reach target. The rate of weight loss is about a stone a month (6.35kg) so the timescale is nice and predictable.

With a clear goal in mind, once achieved we will work to get you back to eating a normal and healthy balanced diet containing solid foods.

Will I be taking weight loss pills because you are pharmacy based?

The service we offer is completely diet formula food based. We do not offer or supply any medication or any “ready meals”. We do offer you the expertise of staff trained in healthcare and pharmacy. Community pharmacy is about helping you get healthier and staying healthy, not pushing pills.

Is Lipotrim vegetarian or vegan?

All our products are suitable for vegetarians but since they invariably contain skimmed mill they are not vegan.
